Đakovo concentration camp
Đakovo concentration camp was a concentration camp in Đakovo in the Independent State of Croatia, founded in 1941. It was founded in an abandoned "Cereale" mill that was owned by the Archdiocese of Đakovica of the Catholic Church. The camp was established on December 1, 1941, primarily for Jewish women and children, including Serbian girls. The camp was operational until it was shut down on July 7, 1942.

In April 1941, the Germans and Italians occupied Yugoslavia. As part of the plan to break up Yugoslavia, the Germans established a successor state - independent Croatia under the leadership of the separatist Croatian Ustasha movement. Between the years 1941-1945, they brutally murdered about thirty thousand Jews, hundreds of thousands of Serbs and government opponents, and thousands of Gypsies. Heavy fines were imposed on the Jews, their movement was restricted and they were marked with a yellow patch.

We thank you in advance. We are very happy when we receive a package with something to eat, it is not very cold anymore but the yard is full of mud. I will write again soon. Father wrote to us not long ago. May God help us see each other soon. Be happy and then we would be happy too.
